For a first trip to Columbus, plan two to three days, stay downtown or near the Short North and expect four distinct seasons: NOAA's normal highs range from 37.1°F in January to 85.4°F in July. COTA's standard bus fare is $2.00 for a two-hour pass, and the City of Columbus charges a 5.1% lodging excise tax on hotel and short-term rental stays.
Quick plan (our recommendation)
This is an editorial plan from official sources, not a trip we took. See the weekend itinerary for a two-day version.
- Day 1 — Downtown and the Short North: the Scioto Mile, North Market and the Short North galleries.
- Day 2 — German Village and Clintonville: Schiller Park, then the Columbus Park of Roses in season.
